Lional Messi Wins FIFA Ballon d'Or 2012

Lional Messi Won the FIFA Ballon d'Or 2012 award by beating Cristiano Ronaldo. This was Messi's 4th consecutive award. The FIFA Ballon d'Or was to be awarded to one of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta or Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Argentina forward the odds-on favourite after his miraculous haul of 91 goals in 2012.

The great and good of world football gathered in Zurich to witness the crowning of the world's best footballer on Monday evening.
Fabio Cannavaro was on stage to finally name the winner of the FIFA Ballon d'Or....

According to FIFA: "Even though Barcelona did not lift a major trophy in 2012 – the Copa del Rey aside – Lionel Messi continued to go from strength to strength, amassing goals and records along the way. The three-time Ballon d’Or winner was no less impressive for Argentina either, helping them dominate the South American FIFA World Cup qualifiers."

Messi said: "I'm feeling so nervous at the moment, but I must thank my family and friends. And everybody who has been involved in this award...from team-mates to my coaches....

"To tell you the truth this is really quite unbelieavable. The fourth award that I have had is just too great for words.
"I would like to recognise my other colleagues from Barcelona: Iniesta it has been great to train and play alongside you. I would also like to recognise all of my friends in the Argentinian national team.
"Everyone that has worked with me coaches and staff and my family and my friends.
"Also my wife and my son. Thank you."
